Making the Mitz website accessible to everyone
All Dutch residents can use MijnMitz.nl to register their consent settings regarding the sharing of their medical data. To achieve that, the website must be accessible to everyone, including people with visual impairments, dyslexia or reading disabilities.
What are we doing to improve the accessibility of Mitz?
The following are a few of the things we do to make Mitz accessible and understandable to everyone.
- Texts at B1 level:
We write all texts at Level B1, which means they are simple and understandable for a wide audience. Level B1 is language that most people can read and understand well. - Checking texts and illustrations before they go online:
Before posting anything online, we review all texts and illustrations to ensure they are accessible. We check that the new content meets WCAG guidelines and that the texts are written at the Level B1. - Software:
We use special software to make information (text, images, video) more accessible. - Usability:
We ask groups of patients to help test user-friendliness, such as testing new features on the website. New features are always tested before they become available to everyone. - Mitzie tells the story:
We created our own character: Mitzie. She stars in explanation videos about Mitz that can be played in waiting rooms. You will also see her on posters and in leaflets. - Steffie.nl:
Steffie.nl has a special visual module that explains Mitz. Steffie is an initiative by Leer Zelf Online, a foundation dedicated to making vulnerable people more self-reliant.
The MijnMitz website is designed to be accessible to everyone, including people with visual impairments, dyslexia or reading disabilities. As such, the website complies with the official accessibility guidelines (WCAG), including the requirements of Digitoegankelijk.nl. Mitz has achieved the highest level (AA) of accessibility.
